Over the years one of the main goals of Diamond Cutters International has been to educate consumers about diamonds. Through our National Diamond Helpline and our Web site we have talked to thousands of grooms and brides-to-be. Here are some of their comments.
You should read what our customers have to say:
Fred:
It all began in December of 1992. There I was, in your office getting the quick lesson on diamonds and what you and DCI could do for me. I can still remember that day, as if it were yesterday. Although my first marriage did not work out, I still held my relationship with you and DCI sacred. I know on many occassions I sent you possible clients; all of which thanked me later for telling them about you. You have been somewhat an inspiration to me and others for your knowledge and your kindness.
For over 20 years, I have seen your business grow and prosper. You now cater to the rich & famous, atheletes, CEOs, and even the White House. These are accomplishments that not too many people can begin to dream about. What makes me writing this letter so special is the simple fact that I am just an ordinary person, but yet you put me and my request on the same level as anyone else.
Thank you Fred. Yes, thank you and the DCI staff for all that you have done. I look forward to the future, and my next visit to Diamond Cutters International.
Kind Regards & Friendship

I did it! I finally proposed this past Friday!
Hi Dee,
I did it! I finally proposed this past Friday. Lauren absolutely loves her ring and I, of course, have only you to thank. Thank you so very much!
The ring is gorgeous, beautiful, and a total & complete work of art. It sparkles almost as much as my eyes whenever I look at Lauren. The only thing better was the privilege and absolute joy of working with you to create it! You are amazing at your job, and I honestly feel you were born to do exactly what you are doing. You have a gift!
My experience working with you was FANTASTIC! You, in a word, were perfect. Please let me know how I can be of any assistance to you in regards to getting the word out about how wonderful you are. Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, whatever I can do. Word of mouth (WOM) is arguably the best sort of “advertising” for jewelry, especially if you don’t have a Tiffany & Co. size advertising budget, so please let me know how I can help. I just feel like you are such a well kept secret, and I feel so very lucky to have found you. The entire world should know about you, and how great of an experience you offer!
So, my super long story about finding you… the world’s seemingly best kept secret ever… I actually purchased “How to Buy a Diamond” by Fred Cuellar in 2002 and it was the 4th Edition. At the same time on Amazon.com I also purchased “The World’s Greatest Proposals” also by Fred Cuellar. And I have been procrastinating my marriage proposal ever since! I actually read the 4th edition cover to cover and frequented Fred’s website in 2002 and 2003. Fred had a questionnaire on his website at that time, and the people that got the best score on his quiz won a one-on-one phone consultation with him. Well, I read his book so thoroughly and studied his website so much, the next thing I knew I was on the phone with THE Fred Cuellar himself, talking with him about my diamond engagement ring dream. Fred was so nice and so professional, but never once mentioned the possibility of buying a diamond from a company with which he was affiliated/owned. It was only in September 2011, almost 10 years after speaking with Fred, that I finally went diamond shopping on Wabash in Chicago with the absolute intention of really buying a ring this time. This experience, which was with a friend’s recommended jeweler on Wabash street in Chicago, was horrible. As a now very educated diamond customer (thanks to Fred Cuellar and his book, website and phone consultation), I was horrified to learn firsthand about the questionable character and practices of the jeweler on Wabash with whom I was working. I will not go into those details, but, in short, his various shenanigans made my experience seem very much like working with the worst kind of used car salesman. Desperate, I turned to the internet and found Diamond Cutters International. It was only after calling the phone number on this website, and speaking to you about my bad experience on Wabash in Chicago, that I learned for the first time that there was a possibility of buying a diamond and ring from Diamond Cutters International. You were so wonderful, right away and throughout the entire process, that I frequently found myself wishing that the book noted the possibility of buying from Diamond Cutters International much more explicitly. I now own the 6th edition of Fred’s book, and you are indeed mentioned in the FAQs, and there are some other references to being able to buy a diamond from a company affiliated with/owned by Fred. But I would suggest, if I may, to hit your readers over the head with that fact. I can totally see the extreme conflict of interest potential in both advising consumers, and at the same time, selling to consumers. But please forget about that potential conflict of interest. In my humble opinion, the readers of Fred’s books would LOVE to buy their diamond from a company he recommends, is affiliated with, or flat out owns 100%. Reading his books is such an incredible experience, and so very educational, that I believe the natural next step is that you want to buy a diamond, and all of your jewelry really, directly from Fred himself. I’d personally buy from Fred if he was marking up his items 5% over full retail market prices, and selling out the back of his beat-up car’s trunk. Anyway, just my two cents. But please know that the option of buying a diamond from you seems like a very well kept secret. I think this is due to the conflict of interest potential of a book advising on, and also trying to sell, diamonds. I just wish the whole world could know about you. Because if they did know about you, I am positively confident that they would have the most wonderful and amazing experience, as I did, in buying a diamond and creating the world’s most perfect diamond engagement ring!
Thanks for everything. You’re an absolute gem. Pun fully intended!
Cheers,
Tom
Dear DCI Staff,
I was pretty surprised last night! It was pretty difficult to surprise me with something I knew was coming but HE DID!!! I was completely floored! I came home to a trail of rose petals and 2 dozen roses all the way from the garage, through the house and up the stairs. It wasn't until I noticed the flower trail turn right instead of left at the top of the stairs that I realized they were for me and not for my roommate. When I opened the door he had a boquet of flowers and got down on his knee and gave a spectacular and somewhat emotional delivery. Of course I said YES and I was so excited I didn't even realize he hadn't given me a ring. I asked where it was and he fumbled around his pockets and started pulling out a bunch of my other rings he had taken from my jewelry box and acting like he couldn't find it. Then he grabbed the box of the dresser and said "oh, here it is". When he opened the box there was a $0.25 gold ring in it…I was going crazy! Background Segway…I have a collection of plastic Hispanic people called "Homies" that I get when I go to Fry's. I have them glued in my freezer and when people ask me what they are I can say…"oh, those are my Homies, their just chillin" It's really funny…Segway back to last night…So then he told me that he bets one of those Homies took it. I ran down to the freezer and found that he had bought me two new Homies and one of them had my ring…my "ice" was in the ice box! I thought it was really clever and beyond perfect. I've never known such happiness! I can't believe I get him for the rest of my life!
Thank You for making us a beautiful ring. It turned out even better than I anticipated and the whole thing is beyond perfection!
Crystal

DCI staff,
This is in regards to my proposal story that you asked me to follow up on a couple weeks ago. I already proposed and she said YES!!! She loves the ring and says that you did an amazing job with it! As i told you in your office when i picked up the ring, we met at HEB 3 and half years ago. I was a cashier at that time and she was a bagger. We met at register 5 and ever since then have been together. I decided to ask her in a way that has meaning so i did it at HEB. I worked out all the details with my manager and was able to catch her completely off guard. As we finished out grocery shopping and headed to check out, I made sure that we were at register 5, where my manager was waiting to ring up our groceries. I had it set up so that there was nobody bagging the groceries for us, so she would have to start bagging our groceries. As she was bagging, we slipped the ring onto the belt behind some bread. I watched as the ring slowly went down the belt and as she finally saw it! She was so shocked that she froze and couldnt move! I picked up the ring and actually had to move her so that she was facing me as i knelt down on one knee and popped the question. She said yes and everyone started cheering at the store, it was amazing! Like you asked i got it all on tape, however i am trying to get some final touches before sending them to you.
I just wanted to thank you for all your help in making this possible! You did a great job and i will recommend you to everyone i know!
-Thank you once again, Timothy Obenland

I know you are a busy man, so instead of calling you, I figured I'd just email you saying how wonderful the ring looks! The detail and the style is amazing! Thank you so much for all of your continued help and service. I can't wait until I can finally give it to her. It will be a wonderful, magical day. Thanks so much, once again.

To the Diamond Cutters Staff,
I just wanted to send you a quick note saying thank you for everything!! We got engaged last weekend, and Sarah was 100% surprised!! She loves the ring; it really looks amazing, and the diamond is perfect. Thank you again for everything, it was an awesome experience working with you. Oh, it fits too; it might be a tad big in the winter, but it's perfect for now so we'llsee...I know they have those little plastic sizer things, because a size smaller would not fit. What else...oh, thank you for the cleaning/care package and all the extras!!! Have a great day.

Dear Fred,
I want to thank you again for the beautiful job that you did in customizing my new diamond ring setting to match my wedding band. It is absolutely spectacular & I just love it! The diamond that you picked out for me is outstanding too! I must admit that I was a little apprehensive about purchasing a diamond "sight unseen" but I trusted your judgement and I'm glad that I did. Diamond Cutters International is a top notch organization and I can't sing enough praises on your behalf. It is a pleasure to do business with such professional & caring people. Thanks again for all of your help.
Sincerely,
Barbara Gabriel
Groom 13:
The Everyone at Diamond Cutters,
We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks for working with us in designing my now fiancé's engagement ring and wedding band. Linda has received numerous compliments on her engagement ring, many of these coming from perfect strangers. Some of these compliments included "it is so sparkly and it is so clear."
About a week after we were engaged, we decided to enjoy the horse races at the local racetrack. We were standing next to an older lady who was casually making conversation. I noticed her eye continuously glancing at Linda's engagement ring. As she was leaving, she said to Linda, "Your ring is beautiful." The funny thing about that is we never mentioned that we recently got engaged and had never met her before.
I always enjoy the comments Linda makes like "it even sparkles in the dark" or "if I get lost, I can just use the light from the diamond to guide me home." Linda told me that the other day her office manager interrupted Linda mid-sentence while she was talking to say, "God, that ring is so beautiful." It fills my heart with joy each time Linda tells me about how someoen complimented her or when I just see her casually glancing at her beautiful ring and smiling.
Thank you for being extremely patient and reassuring throughout the decision process. We are looking forward to owrking with you more in creating my wedding band as well.
Sincerely,
Devin Charles Sweeney
Groom 12:
To Whom it May Concern,
The diamond search has ended. I ended up buying a 1.13 H VS2 stone for $5900. With your help, we determined the stone was a good price and a good cut, so I got it. I'm happy with the jeweler also. Can't thank you enough for all your help (and Fred's too.) Look forward to doing business with you in the future.
Brian
Groom 11:
I received the setting you recently did for me and I think it's beautiful. I really appreciate the kindness and professionalism you have demonstrated, and I will certainly recommend your company to my friends and colleagues.

Greg
Groom 10:
Dear Fred, I just had to write and tell you what an amazing person I think you are. From the very first day I logged onto your website to educate myself on diamonds last fall, I could tell you were an incredibly caring man who had made it his life's work to share his passion and knowledge with others solely for the purpose of helping them. There were no hidden agendas and no ulterior motives.
So it was no surprise when after many months absence I logged back on to your site to discover the Adopt A Diamond™ program. It seemed so fitting as it is a natural extension of the caring person you are. Such purity of heart is hard to find or at least not as readily shown by most. Thank you for sharing that with all of us.
I also wanted to send you my personal thanks for your patient and kind assistance in purchasing our diamond from you this past spring. The engagement ring is beautiful, and I plan to treasure it for the rest of our life together. Kevin and I plan to be married this coming spring and we will certainly feel your presence as we exchange vows before God and family. I'm sure you've heard this before, but you have touched our lives. Again, thank you.
Keep up your good work and I wish you all the best.
Sincerely, Kevin and Veronica
Groom 9:
Dear Diamond Guy,
Thanks for How To Buy A Diamond 3rd. edition, it is highly enlightening. As a much needed resource, your book is invaluable. As I re-read your book it gets better and better. I am also patiently awaiting the arrival of Diamonds For Profit, and Fredisms, as I am really looking forward to learning from both. I'm new to the wonderful world of diamonds and DCI, however I love the site, and enjoy visiting daily.
Currently, I'm in the process of finishing off your articles and questions. Your Adopt A Diamond™ program is quite admirable (the story that started it was quite a tear-jerker), and your kindness and willingness to help others is inspiring. This type of inspiration is personally significant to me as I am searching for my own meaning and purpose in life. My soul-mate and I are the two separate columns of support (as your article suggests), upon which a house of unity is built, however, I must fully discover the composition of my beam, and how it shall be re-enforced.
So far, nothing seems to be more motivating, gratifying, and spiritually enlightening to me as helping others. How this will become my life's work, remains a work in progress. I enjoy your insights into what is valuable in life and how to not just survive, but to live life. Thank you, for your giving actions, as you are an example to be followed and learned from.
Discovering your site, books, and wisdom has been a pleasant surprise, as all I was looking for was how I could get the very best diamond engagement ring for my money. Part of finding my way in life has led me to getting engaged to my true soul-mate. We've been together since high school, and are both 23 years of age. The experience of our love has gone beyond description, and so I want to find a diamond that best symbolizes our special union. I'm working towards a psychology degree at Rutgers University, New Jersey, so money is not plentiful, however I do have 15k ($7500 in cash, and $7500 in credit).
Perhaps this seems a bit overboard, but I feel that life is too short, and she is too special. So this is where I am: Despite their pricy reputation I am very serious about getting the most for my money at Tiffany & Co.. I have read several of your FAQ's wherein you seem to generously and readily assist those in need with getting the most for their money at Tiffany. In these cases I believe you have referred to calling the blue bloods and going into battle. As a result, I was hoping to respectfully ask you if there is any possible way, (as it would really be greatly appreciated) if you would consider lending a similar hand in my case.
As I go into battle (beginning Mon.,May 21,2001), with the fine folks at Tiffany, I would be very grateful if you could assist in any way. In any case, thank you very much for your time (I apologize for being so long winded), and consideration. Please keep up the great work, as it is needed and greatly appreciated. PS. If there is any way I could return the generosity I would be delighted!
God bless!
Sincerely,
Anthony Vitali
Hi Dee-
As I promised, here is my email. Jana was completely shocked and luckily she said yes :) It was an awesome night. The ring is so so beautiful.
Everyone said it's gorgeous. It sparkles and glitters. Jana can't stop looking at it. She said it was perfect and exactly the ring she wanted.
It fits her ring perfectly. You and Fred have made my dreams come true especially with us getting full custody of the kids a few weeks ago and moving to a new school district in the fall. It feels like a new life now and that ring and our love represents it.
-Billy
To Whom it May Concern,
This is Marcos Chavira in San Ramon, Ca. I was the gentleman that ordered the engagement ring that was set in the Claddagh. I proposed to my fiancé this weekend and your ring was utterly perfect! There is no question about it, you and your team are absolute professionals. The presentation material you sent with the ring was great. And the ring itself was beautiful. The book by Fred Cuellar was one of the best purchases I have made all year. Oh, and she said "Yes". I would like to believe it was because she wanted to marry me. However, I hope it was not just the ring. Just kidding!
Thank you for the wonderful service.
Marcos Chavira
Fred,
This is R. and L., we were the walk-ins that met with you yesterday afternoon. We are so fortunate to have met and talked with you. I must admit it was pretty funny that he didn't realize you were the owner, until we walked out and were in the car with your book in his hand. Then all of the hints starting coming together. Nevertheless, you treated us like people and not dollar signs. That is one big reason why I wanted to come to DCI, we heard so many good things on 104.1 about how good your company is with people and what THEY want. We are still reeling from the "Tyra" diamond! LOL Thank you for the book, it has already given us a wealth of knowledge and after finals (end of the week) we will be able to properly read the book! Because of your genuine character and true friendship, we feel like we have made a good friend. Needless to say, we will be back soon to give you a sample of the promise ring, and Leo already has you scheduled for future business! It was truly a pleasure, we can't stress it enough. We will see you soon.
Sincerely,
R. and L.
Hi Dee,
Thank you so much for taking the time and educating me regarding diamonds.
It was an eye opening and not just bargaining for what its worth. It was knowing exactly what you are purchasing and talking to you and reading the book you sent me helps so much. I at least know that my fiancé bought a very nice diamond for me and not get too overpriced.
Again, thanks a lot for your customer service and sharing your expertise. If you happen to be in Rhode Island please let me know ahead of time so I could meet and take you out to dinner. You are such a nice person to talked to.
A. R.
Dear Fred,
I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your friendship and generosity. Robbie and I are still a bit overwhelmed from all the gifts you and Dee gave us. On the night we got engaged, we had this magical moment where he proposed, I cried, he cried and then we went home to bags full of gifts and surprises still to discuss! It took him a full two hours to tell me the whole story — potato skins, cigar boxes, and the whole shebang! I wish you could have seen how excited and happy he was. Thank you for making this experience so memorable and so enjoyable for him.
Robbie was a nervous wreck with all that ring designing responsibility and knowing you were there to help him through it from start to finish was a huge relief (for us both). The ring is GORGEOUS and it turns out I do wash it every day — and sometimes more than once! It is truly a work of art.
True Story: It's the day after we got engaged. Robbie and I are still in our little happy bubble and no one else has seen the ring but us (and you). We decide to go out for lunch, and as we are standing in the parking lot on our way into the restaurant, Robbie turns to me and says, "Now you have to promise to call me the first time someone compliments you on your ring." We go in, eat lunch, and 30 minutes later, we are standing at the register to pay for our meal when the cashier looks down at my hand and says, "Oh my gosh! Where did you get that ring?! It's amazing!!" I turn to Robbie and say, "So…do I still have to call you?" People can't get over this ring and stop me all the time to admire it. Thank you for making such a flawless piece of art.
Speaking of art - I can't get over the Obama coin and necklace. I remember seeing the design outside your office and thinking how cool and special it must be to have something like that on display. And now I have the same thing to display at my own home. You gave us our first family heirlooms — and 'his and hers' versions of that! I simply can't get over it. No one has ever done something like that for me. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Please know that I wear my necklace on special occasions and on days when I need to feel invincible. (So, thanks for giving me a secret weapon.)
Fred, you worked really hard to create a memorable and joyful experience for us. Because of you, I feel like part princess, part rock star, and part political visionary. Thank you for all of your guidance, support, encouragement and thoughtful, generous friendship.
Sincerely,
Jessica
Fred,
Thank you so much for the ring you gave Carrie and me. It looks incredible and Carrie adores it! She had tears in her eyes last night when I gave it to her, which didn't even happen when I proposed! She was completely mesmerized all evening, looking at in from every angle, and grinning from ear to ear all the while.
I don't know where to begin, or how to express my and our, gratitude toward your generous gift. As the wedding expenses mounted, Carrie was incredible when it came to getting a diamond for her engagement ring. Not once did she imply that she was dissatisfied with the CZ that sat in her ring. And every time I would bring it up, promising her that we'd get her the diamond she deserved, she'd deflect and tell me that the rock is far less important than the meaning behind the ring. That being said, it was a bit of a disappointing day when we realized that there was no way we could afford a diamond AND the expenses of the wedding, but you turned that day into a turning point in our engagement.
Your gift, stopped me in my tracks. For the several months before we'd been stressing and planning and stressing some more. I was in a constant state of 'holding my breath' in hopes that we could afford both wedding expenses and the costs of every day living. After Carrie called me to tell me of your offer, the light bulb went off that I was putting so much energy on the unimportant stuff. I needed to focus more of that energy on Carrie, and our life together. While planning is still stressful, we're taking it in stride and enjoying getting all the pieces together and taking a big picture perspective.
Fred, I can't effectively put into words how much I appreciate what you've done for me. In addition to an incredible engagement ring, the nuggets of life wisdom you've bestowed upon Carrie and me in our meetings have been really been powerful. Sorry to sound trite, but our chats have motivated me to live a better, healthier, more meaningful life.
Thank you very, VERY much, for everything you've done and everything you've given us!
Warm regards,
D. F.
Fred,
You're a legend! Thank you for all the suggestions and the documentation you sent my way. That has proven to be invaluable. I had a talk with a few jewelers that didn't pass the sniff test and it was all thanks to what I read in the book and what you passed along. I have now settled on a jeweler on your list and have been working with them to get the diamond I am looking for. They did not have one on hand but assure me that they will soon and long before my deadline. I will let you know if I have any additional questions before I buy. With such an important purchase, I would hate to make a mistake.
Thanks again for the help and I will definitely stay in touch.
Kind regards
Shingai
Dear Fred,
I am writing to thank you for the wonderful relationship we have begun. You took the time to get to know me as a person and to understand who I was. Then, you helped me to understand who you were and the kind of business you did. It was so refreshing to meet someone who actually knew what they were talking about - someone who understood the significance of my endeavor to purchase an engagement ring for the one I love — someone who I could trust.
Fred, you and Dee helped me make one of the biggest decisions of my life. When I freaked out about the design artwork of the ring, you said "Trust me" and I did. When I freaked out about the wax cast of the ring, you said, "Trust me" and I did. When I finally saw the finished product, I realized what you knew all along - it was the perfect ring for my one, true love, Jessica. I asked her to marry me the very next day and she said "Yes!"
Everyday she admires it and tells me how gorgeous it is. Jessica and I have noticed hundreds of different engagement rings on people since we have been engaged — some being larger, some being smaller, all of them different in their own way. But Jessica and I agree they all pale in comparison to the one we got from you.
I can't imagine ever buying another piece of fine jewelry from anywhere other than Diamond Cutters International. Thank you so much for helping Jessica and I take the next step in our lives. I feel truly blessed to have met you and to have had the privilege of doing business with you. I look forward to seeing you again soon as Jessica and I begin looking at wedding bands.
Sincerely,
Robbie

To the DCI Staff:
Just wanted to let you know that Ashley's LOVES her new engagement ring! It really is beautiful! Thank you again for doing everything you have for me! You have no idea how much I appreciate it! Even though I hated spending the extra money to modify the ring, it was well worth it (I would have much rather of saved that money towards another custom Gibson Les Paul for myself).
Thank you again for everything! The rings look amazing together and more importantly, Ashley LOVES them! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
This is not an entry but the remarkable ending to the story of a previous winner. 75th anniversary recipient, Gladys Hensley passed away last Friday morning, the 22nd. That evening Dad, who at 97, was by all accounts in good health, except for bad knees, started having trouble catching his breath. My brother called 911 and Dad was taken to the hospital. A chest x-ray revealed pneumonia in one lung. Treatment was started. By the next day the pneumonia had engulfed his body and we were told that Dad was not going to make it. He was moved to the Hospice wing and kept comfortable and free of pain until his passing Monday afternoon. A joint funeral was held on Wednesday, the 27th. What a wonderful testament and storybook ending to their 77 years of devotion. Their obituaries can be viewed at the Meador Funeral Home website: www.meadorfuneralhome.com.
Gladys Hensley was one of Diamond Cutters Internationals Adopt-A-Diamond Winner on March 16, 2006. Click here to read her touching story.
Everyone at Diamond Cutters International would like to extend our deepest condolensces to the Hensley Family and would like to also extend our appreciation to Patricia Farm for letting us know that Gladys and Dude Hensley have passed on. May they both rest in peace.
Diamond Cutters,
When I purchased my wife's engagement/wedding rings many years ago I was very impressed at how you guys took care of my desires. When the ring was completed I was again very impressed at the quality of your work. Last week when I brought in the ring to check on the security of the diamond, you took care of the situation far better than I could have imagined. Today, I picked up the rings and again the quality of the work you performed was exceptional. I just want you to know how appreciative I am of the ethics of DCI and the quality workmanship, quality service and friendliness of your staff. In America today, unfortunately, it is rare to find a company in any endeavor that takes this kind of pride in their work. This experience has made me feel really good and I applaud you. You have firmly established a loyal customer and advocate of your service. Thanks to Rick your DCI team.
Sincerely,
Barry Dolgow

Hello,
I’m writing to let you know that I finally did it, I proposed! I didn’t realize it until afterwards how very nervous I’ve been. She loves the setting. She absolutely loves the ring. When I say she loves it, I mean that she wake up in the middle of the night and stares at it, no joke. Every decision you helped me with was tight on, especially the feathering. She’s enraptured (I don’t use this word lightly) by the uniqueness and the antique look. I gave you the credit and honor for those most thoughtful gifts. The Calatrava Cross is a guideline to living and being married and we thank you for it. Thank you and please thank your artist too for his part.
You know I only saw the ring three times before I gave it to her. But I didn’t really see it until it was on her finger. That diamond sparkles like crazy. It’s like a disco ball. We get fantastic reactions from everyone she shows it to. And we get almost as many comments on the setting as we do on the diamonds. It is a unique and beautiful design.
So here’s how it went down. She’s in a graduate program and has been studying for exams all summer. So last Friday night I went over with a dozen roses and her dog (who had been staying with me). I knock on the door, which threw her a bit because I have keys. She sees the flowers and assumes it’s for the end of the exams. I let her think that. While she’s commenting on the flowers I kneel to put her little dog down. And I stay there on one knee. At first she looks confused but soon she realizes and she freezes. That’s when I say the actual word that I had been working on all day. She says yes (that was never in doubt and not what I was nervous about). I then enter the apartment and slide the ring on her finger—perfect fit. I tell her about how I talked to her parents and she loved that. Then I hold out the necklace (in the box of course) and she stares in disbelief. I proceed to tell her about the cross and of course more tears. Afterwards I take her out for dinner. She thinks we’re just going out for a bite and is surprised to see another dozen roses and champagne chilling on the table in the restaurant we had our first date in. After that we went to the bar we had our first drink in. And I have reservations at a resort in Montauk, Long Island, for a weekend getaway.
With the help of Diamond Cutters, this engagement/proposal was spectacular. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and will recommend you every chance I get.
Thank you for everything.
Carmine
P.S. This letter is as short as I could make it and still be able to express my gratitude. Hope it didn’t keep you too long.
Dear Diamond Cutters,
It’s after 10pm and I finally opened ‘the package.’ First let me say that the ring is beautiful. Maria is going to love it. I can’t get over all the stuff that came with it. But especially the extra gifts. The necklace and the coin are incredibly impressive: thought provoking as well as beautiful. What really touched me is the message of the Calatrava Cross and the fact that Fred Cuellar and Diamond Cutters International could be so thoughtful and sensitive in the time of the bottom line. Frankly, you could have sent a steel coin with the Calatrava Cross on it and I would have loved it. But the fine silver does add that specialness and a special beauty to it. And those jewelry boxes!
Fred, you are a gentleman and it was a pleasure. Thanks for easing my stress. I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks again,
Carmine
I want to tell you that I’m finally engaged, and I couldn’t be happier. The day of my proposal went just as well as I had planned it, and was worthy of the beautiful diamond I gave her ar the “grand finale.” The day was worthy of a “World’s Greatest Proposals Volume Two,” if one is ever published. My only regret is that I didn’t have a camera with me that day to record the moment. Even I can’t think of everything. I’ve excerpted a recent email, below, to give you some idea of how I feel about my bride-to-be and the beautiful diamond I’ve given her. Remember that I wrote it only intending it for her. Somehow, though, I think you will appreciate the sentiment. At the time she had no idea where I was or why I was apart from her the weekend I flew to Houston, by the way.
“Your ring is a work of art with a near-investment-grade diamond as a centerpiece. Your center diamond is of the highest quality that diamond experts recommend actually be worn. Any higher quality diamond would belong only in a bank vault because it would be considered “investment grade” and simply too valuable to wear and risk damaging or losing. And all that is to say nothing of the fact that I spent an entire weekend apart from you to fly to Houston to buy the diamond. Do you believe that yet, by the way? That reminds me, I need to see about booking airfare out there in next March. I’ll look into that this morning.
You know, I think I love your ring almost as much as I love you. Is that a good thing…or is it a little much? I mean, I did put a lot of thought and time into it. I just wanted you to know how much I love you every time you look at it. So nothing less would do. I didn’t have to fly to Houston (I could have just ordered it by phone or e-mail through the same company), but after all the research I had done into buying diamonds I thought it might be fun. And it was fun for me. I didn’t even expect to me Fred Cuellar, the “diamond guy”, and have him sign the latest edition of his book for me. That was just the icing on the cake. So I enjoyed the “process”, and I’m happy that I could buy you the ring you wanted with the most beautiful diamond ever to be worn in the center. Is it any wonder that I ask you if you’re cleaning it every day? I never want it to look any less beautiful than the day I gave it to you…or the day I first saw the completed ring myself (in my car in the FedEx parking lot in Middletown). It pained me to hide it away in a safe deposit box for so long but I reasoned (and I think Mr. Cuellar would agree) that such a beautiful ring deserved a “proposal” that was equally memorable and, of course, that took time to plan. You’re not just wearing a ring. You are wearing a legacy. That ring will be passed down through generations to follow us, and hopefully the story of how I obtained it for you and gave it to you will go with it. My fondest hope is that someday, after we’re gone, someone will remember us and look at that ring and know the love I feel for you. That may be as close as I ever come to immortality.”
With that, I have a question. When I visited you last March it was on a Friday afternoon. I think I might have asked you then if you were available on a Saturday. I forget now. My bride-to-be and I would like to visit you this next march (2006). The problem is that she doesn’t have enough vacation days accrued (she hasn’t been working for the same company for thirteen years like I have) to ask for a Friday off work. If I’ve asked you before and you said no, the forgive me. Is it possible for us to visit you on a Saturday next march? Not only would that give you an opportunity to inspect her beautiful diamond…but she’s also a sports fan (better yet…a Yankees fan) just like me. She would love visiting your offices. For me, being able to bring her to your offices would be the icing on top of the icing on the cake! But it would have to be during a Saturday. So tell me if that’s possible or if it isn’t. (Please tell me you can do that!)
In any case, she loves the diamond. She cleans it faithfully every day…just like Mr. Cuellar instructed her to. And, of course, it’s still every bit as beautiful as it was the day you sent it to me by FedEx. Is it wrong for me to love her ring almost as much as I love her? I don’t think so.
Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. And thank you for not thinking that people who only e-mail aren’t serious customers!
Eric Stentzel
To the Staff at Diamond Cutters,
I wanted to let you know that Pamela absolutely loves the wedding band. You did a great job! She definitely has 2 unique, beautiful rings! We are very excited about Saturday! We’re working on all the last minute details! Thanks so much for all your help! You’re awesome!
I’ll e-mail you some pictures once I have them!
Take care,
Dale
Dee,
I wanted to give you one final thank you for the time and effort you put into helping me select Michelle’s engagement and wedding rings. She is very happy with the final product – from the diamonds to the settings, everything is perfect! I am grateful that when I called the helpline from Fred’s book that they connected me with you. I was very impressed with the time you spent with me during the entire buying experience. Michelle and I have tentatively set the date for October of 2006 in Columbus, OH, but we just have to be careful not to schedule the wedding on an Ohio State Buckeye Saturday, there are a lot of crazy Buckeye fans in Columbus that would maybe choose the Buckeyes over our wedding. Enclosed are some pictures of Michelle and I during the Baltimore vacation the weekend I proposed to her. Although I have not met you in person, you have helped one of my dreams become a reality. I wish you the best of luck in the future and I hope you are still with Diamond Cutters International the next time I purchase jewelry for Michelle!
With Great Appreciation
Edward Beatrice
Hello DCI-
I should have written you sooner, but things have been a little busy lately. I just wanted to let you know that everything went great with the engagement. Nani was completely surprised and she loves the ring. We will be getting married in Dec 2005 in Maui. Thanks again for all your help and quick work with little notice, I truly appreciate the effort that you put into helping me out. We haven't started looking seriously for wedding bands yet, but when we do I will make sure to contact you.
Thanks
Andy
Hello,
The ring looks great. It is hard not to stare at it. Thanks for doing such a great job. I'll be in touch with how Melissa responds. It is going to be hard to wait to give this to her.
Thanks again for all of your hard work.
Tom
Fred,
I can't thank you enough for the wonderful job you did on the engagement ring and wedding band I picked up yesterday. You exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only did you give me a stunning ring, but the attention to detail and all the effort you put in to making this purchase an enjoyable one is greatly appreciated. You blew me away with your knowledge and generosity. Walking me through the facts about purchasing a diamond, working with me to design what I wanted, and going the extra mile really goes a long way. You not only got me the ring of my dreams, but went out of your way to give me the tools needed for proper care. In fact, I was so excited about the ring that I couldn't hold on to it for very long . . . I proposed last night!!!
Thanks for everything! You have made this experience a pleasure and I look forward to doing more business with you in the future. I know my dad can't wait to get his puzzle ring he has on order!!!
Regards,
Josh
Oh, by the way . . . she said YES!!!
Fred,
After hearing about DCI on Mix 96.5FM here in Houston, I made a trip to DCI one day recently while I was in the Galleria area. Rick Atona saw me without my having an appt., and gave me such informed information on what to look for in a diamond, without pushing me to buy anything. He asked all the right questions about my goals in purchasing an engagement ring for my sweetie, Silvia, and allowed me to make a comfortable decision, and the right decision for me. I now have a beautiful ring in layaway with you all, and look forward to the nearing day when I come to pick it up for Silvia. I know she will be thrilled, and so will I. PS.....Where did you all find Rick? He was amazingly nice, well-educated, and professional. Plus, he really cared about my needs, which says it all.
Hello Dee.
Thank you Dee for all your efforts and advice. Jackie loved the ring (there were tears - of joy I should say) and indeed it was worth the wait. It is a beautifully clear stone and the setting is just perfect. I should also warn you that you will probably receive a call from at least one of my brother and cousin over the next 12 months!
I hope you are well and look forward to hearing you.
Best wishes,
Iain
Fred-
I will be calling in the morning to tell you to go ahead on a ring that we have been talking about for 2 weeks. I just wanted to compliment you on your business. I received your book last year and have been reading the web site frequently. I knew I didn't want to go anywhere else. This ring is very special-20 years of marriage and renewing our vows. As in all marriages, some times are easier than others-my husband had two brain surgeries, right now we have 3 teenagers (!!), and we even had a brief separation in our marriage. We are looking forward to the future with hope and excitement and the ring is a part of that. On one hand, it sounds crazy to order a $10,000 ring without actually seeing the stone or setting until it is all put together but I know I can trust your work. Rick has found a 3 carat sapphire for the center stone. We have had several conversations, numerous emails and He has been very patient with me.
He has done an excellent job of listening to what I want, as well as explaining and educating. He has worked with Jose on the drawings and been incredibly attentive to the detail I want. Now, comes the hard part-waiting!! I knew from your book and web site that you consider customer service very important and I am sure you only have very special people that work at DCI. This will be the most significant piece of jewelry I own-in significance, quality of stones and workmanship. I am very excited about wearing and enjoying such a beautiful ring.
Thank you for your work!!!!
Janet Tucker
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know how pleased I am with Grayland Noah who made my diamond buying experience fun and simple. Grayland walked me through the complicated process of how to understand the quality and pricing of a diamond, especially "buying shy".
However, most importantly Grayland listened very carefully to my budget and the quality of diamond I wanted to buy — I am a busy person and this reduced the amount of time I had to spend diamond shopping. Within a very short period Grayland found for me the perfect diamond. Last weekend in Lake Tahoe I "popped the question" to my girlfriend and presented her with the diamond ring. She answered yes, and is also ecstatic over the perfect diamond that Grayland found for me. It is without hesitation that I recommend Grayland Noah and Diamond Cutters International.
I just wanted to write and thank you for the incredible service that you provided in preparing a diamond engagement ring for me. I really appreciate the personalized attention that I received and all of the time you spent answering my many questions. When I initially called Diamond Cutters, my intention was simply to verify that I was making a good deal purchasing diamonds from a local store. You helped me to understand that the manager of the store was not giving me all the information on the stones he was selling. I realized he wasn't very knowledgeable about the diamonds he was selling, because he didn't even understand some of the basic concepts that you had taught me. You encouraged me to find another store and contact you when I found other diamonds I liked. You said that you would help ensure that I was getting a good deal wherever I purchased a ring. You agreed to help me even though I live far away in Lexington, KY.
You were able to create the perfect ring for my girlfriend based on our phone conversations and a few photos that I e-mailed you. I was really impressed when the first drawings that you sent displayed the ring exactly as I had imagined. Even though I never saw the diamonds before the ring was made, I trusted your judgment of the quality of the stones and the way the completed ring would appear. The fact that you sent drawings of the ring, mappings of the diamonds, and a diamond bond helped alleviate my fears of doing incredible diamonds at a great price that was within my budget. You even told me that you would take the ring back without question if I was not completely satisfied. The best part of all was that you designed and made the ring in a short period of time. You shipped the finished ring to my girlfriend's address in Alabama on the day that proposed to her. The ring arrived right on time and I was able to follow the schedule of events for the day, just as I had planned. I only had a few seconds to look at the ring when it first arrived, but I knew when I opened the box that it was an incredible ring and that you and your team had done an outstanding job making the ring. My fiance' could not stop smiling that night when I proposed, and I know that receiving such a beautiful ring was at least partially responsible for her happiness (even though she would never admit it).
It has been almost a year and a half since you created the perfect engagement ring for my wife. We have been happily married close to a year, and we are expecting our first child in July. My wife is as happy with her ring today as she has ever been. I know that I will contact you again in the future when I want to make another diamond purchase. I will also recommend your services to anyone I know that is looking to purchase a diamond. Once again, thank you very much for all your help. You turned a very stressful situation for me into one of the best experiences of my life.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Frank
Fred,
Just wanted to send you and Julie and update. I proposed last night and she said yes! Even in the darkness of the limo, the diamond sparkled. She has gotten tons of compliments today already and couldn't take a picture with her digital camera because it reflected the flash so much you couldn't see it! Thanks for all your help, we'll be in touch soon about a wedding band to match.

To the DCI staff,
I got engaged on Valentines day to Janice.
I had a gift certificate to a local restaurant, called Peters on the Green. I won the gift certificate through a work drawing. I had given her some perfume in the morning for Valentines day, she thought that was all she was getting, plus going out for dinner later.
When we arrived that evening, there was a 1/2 dozen roses and bottle of wine waiting at the table. She looked at the flowers, looked around and noticed none of the other tables had flowers. She asked me if I did it and I said yes. I told her I got her more than just the perfume. I won't forget the look on her face she thought that was very nice. That was when I pulled out the ring and said there was one more thing I wanted to give her, and asked if she would marry me. She said yes right away and put the ring on.
She was totally surprised. She loves her ring. We look at it all the time. We would like to thank you for all your help.

Hi,
I want to personally thank you for the assistance and guidance you provide in the past few weeks. I proposed on Saturday morning and it was a tremendous success…. I really appreciate the time you took during the ring selection process and more importantly the actually proposal advice you provided. Your advice really paid off. It was a tremendous success. Here is a summary of the final version:
I arrived at 9:00am on Valentine's Day with a 7 member mariachi band at her childhood home. I set up at the steps of the house leading to her bedroom door. I had the mariachi band behind me in a semi circle, her father to my left as I knelt on one knee holding a long stem red rose (ring at my side). Surrounding me was a bed of rose petals that led up the stairs to her door. I gave the signal and the mariachi band started playing Las Mañanitas "one of her favorite songs and a popular serenation song. As she came to the door, she looked out and started crying. Eventually she made her way out and I gave her the rose (her family was standing to the side — off to the right). After taking the rose, I reach over and picked up the ring box. I said my speech and opened the box as I asked her to marry me. After she said YES, we eventually went to the house and celebrated with her family as the mariachi band play continued to play. We finished up with a family breakfast.
Again, thanks for all your advice and the ring looks great! I have passed your name on and my positive experience with you onto some friends who are thinking about taking the same journey.
I am sure I will be back in there soon!
Take care and Best Regards,
David Mancuso
Fred,
I just wanted to say thank you for your help in designing and purchasing an engagement ring. I picked it up a week ago and it is just amazing. The diamond is absolutely beautiful -- more so than I ever even dreamed it would be. As a college student on a limited budget, I am grateful for how you worked with me to help me find something within my price range as stunning as the ring I was able to get. The ease and peace of mind I had dealing with you makes me wonder why anyone would go through a jewelry store. Yourself and Julie were very helpful and accommodating. I can't wait to see the look on my girlfriend's face when I propose. You have made a customer for life. When we begin to go through the process of picking out wedding rings, we will be in contact again. Who better to help pick out something that will be a perfect match to such an awesome engagement ring??? Thanks so much Fred -- Julie too, I really do appreciate everything.
Gratefully,
Jamie Hutchison
Dear Fred:
A year ago, I would not have thought this day would be possible - a day where I would be writing a thank you letter to someone so special - a new friend in my life. Last year, I was going through a deep depression and didn't know if life was worth living. It turns out that I had a serious medical condition and with the support of a loving husband and family, I am a new person. The Lord has blessed me so much throughout my life and He is still blessing me today. Not only do I have my health back, but I also have a beautiful diamond ring thanks to my aforementioned new friend, Rick Antona.
Approximately ten years ago, I misplaced my diamond engagement ring and when I went to replace it I found that the information, or should I say misinformation, I received from various jewelers was so conflicting and overwhelming that I decided not to replace my ring.
As I am getting older and wiser, I realize life is too short, so my husband and I decided it was time to replace my diamond. After all, I need to have something special to pass down to my daughter. Through an Internet search, The Lord led me to your website and it turned out to be the best search of my life. When I saw I won a prize, I was suspicious and expected to receive advertisements, spam, etc. Instead, I received the most valuable book on diamonds as well as access to a helpline that led me to a "real" diamond professional, Rick Antona. His knowledge and honesty was impressive. He was actually more concerned about my "budget" than I. Thank you, Rick, for keeping me on track.
Well, I am pleased to say I am now the proud owner of a beautiful box radiant brilliant bonded diamond offset by my favorite cut of baguettes in a platinum setting. Now that I actually see a well-cut diamond, all I could say is WOW! Talk about ice crystals. This diamond is fabulous! The entire ring sparkles.
Thank you, Rick, for your guidance, patience and sincerity. I speak from my heart when I say I made a new friend. Thank you, Fred, for sharing your knowledge and expertise with novices such as myself. Although I have not spoken with you directly, my instinct tells me you are an exceptional man. Rick and Julie have confirmed my intuitive feeling. Above all, thank you God, for proving that there are people out there who really do care about others and are not just out for themselves and the bottom line of profit.
I look forward to working with you again in the future and will be referring you to many of my friends.
Happy and Blessed Holidays,
Barbara G. from Pennsylvania
Fred,
My name is Reiko Harpending. Yesterday, I received a wonderful ring. I would like to thank you for all your help in assisting my husband to purchase the perfect diamond ring for me. It is just beautiful. The clarity and the delicate design of the ring are awesome. It is very elegant. I will treasure it and enjoy wearing it everyday. I am captured by the beauty of the diamond. I might give my husband a hard time asking for more rings and necklaces. Thank you again for your willingness to help us. Appreciating my diamond ring has really motivated me to study more about diamonds. I will read the book you sent us again or many times to familiarize myself with diamonds. Have a good weekend.
Reiko Harpending
Fred,
Hope everything is going well. Alison and I are very thankful for the bag of goodies you sent, now her diamond shines like it should. I wanted to thank you again for all of your help and guidance throughout my entire buying experience. Through our conversations and your explanation of how the process should work, I was more than prepared for whatever situation may encounter me while shopping. With the help of Fred's book and your availability, I was well educated and received the most diamond for my money.
Thank you so much for everything. Please know that it is people such as yourself and your company that make buying a pleasurable experience.
Best of luck with all your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Will Bosdell
Dear Mr. Cuellar,
My name is Will Bosdell. I purchased your book earlier this year, when I began to shop for an engagement ring. The book was excellent. It gave me the knowledge to feel confident in looking at and speaking about diamonds. I have recommended it to all my friends who are shopping.
My reason for writing is to praise Rick Antona. I took your advice and called the "My Gemologist" number and was overwhelmed by the level of service provided. To be honest, I was fully expecting to be called or get sales pitches after giving him my information. Needless to say, I was never bothered; instead, Rick became my main source of opinion. He helped me in understanding what the different terminology meant and how to correlate to what the book talked about. With his assistance I was able to find a reputable jeweler and obtain a diamond that was beyond my expectations.
The services you, Rick, and Diamond Cutters are providing are a refreshing reminder that there are still honest, helpful people in the business world. I don't know how else to express my gratitude for all the help provided.
Best of luck in all your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Will Bosdell
Fred,
I just wanted to thank you both very much for your help with the purchase of our engagement ring. My fiance (I love the sound of that!!) and I met with Fred when we came down toHoustonin June. We really enjoyed our visit. Daniel proposed to me on the fourth of July amidst my family inBuffalo,NY. My grandmother had recently been diagnosed with cancer and it meant the world to her to be able to see us get engaged. (I'm her youngest grandchild, and the last to be married!) She was absolutlely thrilled, as was I.
Thank you both very much for your help and for answering all of our questions. Thank you for working with Daniel to get the beautiful ring delivered and for all of the cleaning supplies you sent with it. That was very thoughtful.
I will be in touch once we begin thinking about the wedding bands. We haven't started to plan the wedding yet and thus have not picked a date. We are both very close to finishing our doctoral degrees and have been busy writing our dissertations and looking for jobs! It is a very exciting time for us.
Thank you both again for your patience and help. It was very much appreciated. You made what could have been a very nervewracking experience, a fairly comfortable one. Thank you!
Take care,
Holly Gurbacki

To Everyone at Diamond Cutters International,
I received the ring this morning. It is beautiful and I know she will love it. I just wanted to thank you for all of the help you have given me in finding a diamond. After reading Fred's book, I really wanted to find a quality diamond at a reasonable price. In my area I couldn't even find a jeweler who would give me the diamond info. I wanted. Without your help I would still be looking today and wondering if there was a good jeweler on this earth.
Thanks again,
Charlie Wilkins
Hi the Staff at Diamond Cutters International,
I want to thank you again for making this whole process a great experience. I have read many a horror story about working with dealers over the internet, but I am glad to say that my story has a happy ending. The whole process, from design to finished product, has been nothing but enjoyable. Rick, you have been great to work with during these past few weeks. Even though we had to converse via the internet or phone, your attentivness to every detail and continual contact with me ensured me that personal visits were not necessary. You and Neil were able to take my designs and create two spectacular rings that I will enjoy for the rest of my life!!!
With great thanks and appreciation
Susan Ardizzone
Dear Everyone at Diamond Cutters,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your help with my recent engagement ring purchase. I must admit that I had heard several horror stories about the process from acquaintances of mine. Thankfully, a close friend let me borrow his 2nd edition of "How to Buy a Diamond" and I immediately felt more prepared to start the process.
The first time we had a chance to speak, I recognized the level of your professionalism. I knew that you were very confident in the knowledge that you could offer me, and I placed a lot of value in that. You sent me the 4th edition of the book to better inform me of the updated information involved in the diamond buying process. Knowledge is power, I simply could not agree with you more.
After visiting several local jewelers, I realized what the market had to offer. Unfortunately, I also realized what some merchants were able to impose on buyers simply because of ignorance. Every time I had a question, you were able to respond promptly and in essence give me a better understanding of the particulars of my situation.
I sincerely appreciate your consideration, devotion, and dedication to my happiness with the purchase of my engagement ring. I was so impressed with the quality of the stone that you cut for me. Thanks again for sending it to the GIA for independent certification. My fiancé was in awe the night that I finally proposed. Even though the sun had set, the stone sparkled like it was the bright of day.
I hope to educate friends of mine who follow in my footsteps, and I will inform them of Diamond Cutters International. In time, I hope that more and more consumers become aware of what your company has to offer because I feel like I not only performed a business transaction, but I also found a friend.
Thanks again for all your help, Rick. I sincerely appreciate all your time in helping me make a dream come true.
Sincerely,
Brian J. Hertz, MD
Dear Fred,
Thank you for all your help in getting a perfect engagement ring. My Fiancé, Megan, was blown away by its beauty and sparkle. She has received so many compliments in the first few days, particularly on the Lucida setting. I can't thank you enough for making the whole process so easy and hassle-free. We will certainly be in touch about wedding bands at some point in the future.
Kevin
Dear DCI Staff,
I just wanted to express my sincere thanks for helping me along in the selection process for this exquisite diamond and diamond engagement ring. I felt you were not just a sales associate, but also a genuine educator and a friend helping in the selection process. I read the book "How to Buy a Diamond" which is the most informative book relating to buying Diamonds I have ever found. I really enjoyed all the personal stories Fred wrote in his book as well as the easy to understand technical Diamond lingo. I feel like not only have I bought a fantastic Diamond engagement ring, but I have made two new friends. Mr. Grayland Noah & Mr.Fred Cuellar! With my somewhat limited budget you gentleman made my day, month, year to be able to put such quality stone so beautiful on my future wife's finger. I can tell you that my fiancée Jill was more than surprised by the quality of the Diamond and how it just sparkled from across the room when I proposed to her at Brennans of Houston on Valentines Day. Several couples commented on just how beautiful and sparkly the Diamond was. I also want to mention that I feel like I can trust both of you; Grayland because of my personal experience buying a diamond from you and Fred, because after reading his book there is no doubt that he is truly a good person who places genuine interest in people, integrity and caring for the fellow man. You will certainly have my repeat business along with as many friends and co-workers I can tell my wonderful experience to. Thanks again!
Hello,
I just wanted to say "thank you" for the most beautiful ring in the world. The diamonds are unbelievable. I get comments in restaurants on how lovely my ring is! I just love it. The design is perfect for me! I LOVE THIS RING! Thank you again for being so nice to Kurt & I. We'll be contacting you shortly for the wedding band.
Sincerely,
Deb
I just wanted to thank Fred very much for sending me a copy of the book. I read and re-read it, and the information was so helpful to my asking the right questions. We chose three high-quality loose diamonds and had them set by the jeweler. I love my ring. Thanks again so very much.
Sophia
To Everyone at Diamond Cutters,
Many belated thanks for helping me with the seemingly insurmountable task of finding the perfect diamond for my true love. I do not know how I could have successfully navigated the confusing diamond industry with all the dishonest and misleading sales persons and companies. In my own business (and in my personal life) I reward people who deliver excellent service with my repeat business and by suggesting their business to other people. I have told many of my friends who are thinking about getting engaged that they must buy the latest edition of How to Buy a Diamond. I know of no other way to reward you. Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Kevin
Hello
Yesterday you got back to me in regards to a diamond that is I1-G-0.59. It was priced to me at $2150 and you advised it was twice that of what I should be paying. I went to the jeweler last night and basically asked her why such a mark up of twice the actual cost? She actually brought the cost down to $1200 for that same diamond. Thanks for your advice. It has proven to have saved us quit a bit of money. Thx
Giuliana
To Whom it May Concern,
I am the new fiance of Justin Holy. He proposed to me about 2 weeks ago and I wanted to write to say thank you for working with Justin. The ring is absolutely beautiful; I love everything about it! It is unique and detailed and so perfect. Just as a quick story, as a compliment to you and the craftsmanship of Diamond Cutters International... I had to work the day after Justin proposed to me and that morning didn't tell a single person that we had gotten engaged the night before. I didn't have to because this ring spoke for me. I received many compliments from fellow employees. Customers even noticed without ever a word from me. These strangers could just see how alive and beautiful the diamonds are in this ring. I am amazed!
Many thanks to you and your craftsmen. You have created a ring that will hold very special memories for Justin and I.
Sincerely,
Kaitlin Schoeffield
Groom 1:
I am writing to give my sincere thanks for the assistance that you provided me in selecting an engagement ring. My name is Shane (from Washington DC) and I spoke with you twice about a month ago regarding some diamonds I had looked at from Mervis Diamond Importers. You narrowed down my choice to one stone and told me to have the exact pavilion angle checked out. I took your advice and the numbers came out right so I went ahead and made the purchase. My fiance absolutely loves her diamond and the sparkle couldn't be brighter. She was doubly impressed when she found out that I had gotten advice from "The Diamond Guy®".
Your book was excellent in giving me an education on diamond shopping and for you to take two phone calls from me was way above the call of duty. I have already recommended your book to two friends and will continue to do so in the future.
Shane Hibbard, Washington, DC
Groom 2:
I am deaf and was looking for a special engagement ring for my financé. I always do research before I make decisions. I came across Fred's book in an old bookstore. I was very lucky to stumble across it. I visited all the jewelry stores in the area and was not satisfied with their offers. I felt that I was getting ripped off and most of them didn't take the time to understand and communicate with me due to my deafness. I called Fred through the relay system on the phone and he was very patient and calm. He had a deaf friend and he wanted to learn fingerspelling.
I felt that I came to the right place. Fred walked me through everything via the phone/relay system. 3 weeks later, I received the best looking diamond ring I ever received. It was 3/4 carat. My family and friends remarked on how gorgeous it looked even beating some 1.5 carats diamond that we had in our family. I will always be grateful to Fred for taking the time to communicate with me. Due to this, he will always have a loyal customer in me and all purchases from me will be made through DCI in the future.
Billy Mauldin, West Carrollton, OH
Groom 3:
Do not despair — the great diamond hunt is not that bad. Thankfully, after reading Fred's book I was able to see beyond the smoke and mirrors of many jewelers. A sucker is born every day. In my opinion, a uneducated consumer is a naive consumer. With the help of Fred's book and a few phone calls with Fred, I found and purchased a beautiful diamond at a GREAT price. Let's just say that she loves the engagement ring. My advice to diamond seekers is patience, persistence, and education. I would recommend Fred's book to any of my friends.
Thank you Fred.

Groom 4:
As a student, getting the best diamond for my somewhat small budget was a major concern. Fred sent me a free copy of his book "How to Buy a Diamond" and I read it before meeting with him. I found it to be very helpful in helping me to decide what kind of diamond I wanted and the budget that I had when I went to meet with Fred.
First I was very impressed that the CEO and President was the one to sit down with me and explain what types of diamonds would fit into my budget. He made me feel very comfortable and I truly believe that his number one concern was to help me pick the perfect ring for my future fiancee, not to make a profit or sale. He explained everything very clearly and showed me many different diamonds. When we finished I had a beautiful .5 carat diamond with baguettes on a platinum ring. It was much more than I had expected to get in my budget.
Six months later I proposed to my fiancee on her front porch where we had our first kiss 9 years earlier. It looks beautiful on her hand, and I know that if not for Fred and his help, I wouldn't have been able to give her such a beautiful symbol of my love.

Groom 5:
Fred - I just got back to my office after spending over two hours with you (per a one-hour appt.) and although my work has piled up, I felt compelled (prior to getting back to work), to first write you a note to express my most sincere thanks. Actually I was going to write you a personal note of thanks but did not find your e-mail address so I went to your web-site and saw this opportunity to share my story.
What I want people to know about my experience is the fact that I went to buy my fiance a wedding ring and ended up spending most of my time simply glued to your every word as you so kindly shared your experiences, lessons and thoughts about life. Here I am discussing what is really important in life, with the CEO of this diamond organization. Alanis Morsette needs to adds this to her list of ironies!
For the sake of brevity in hopes that people will read this, the main point I want to share about my experience is that without a doubt, you are the type of person I would trust with my life. I mention this because to me, the number one criteria in buying a diamond was finding someone I could totally trust. I say this because I believe there are many people knowledgable about diamonds, but what is most important is being about to trust someone.
Think about any similar situation. For example, when you take your car in for repairs, do you usually worry about whether the person is competent or is it more, do you trust them. Don't get me wrong, being competent is absolutely a necessity, (which by the way, I found out Fred is the one who literally wrote the book on diamonds), but from my point of view, trust is what we are desperately looking for and are all too often disappointed.
Believe me on this one folks. When I hear the CEO talking from the bottom of his heart about listening and looking for opportunities to help people because that is where true fulfillment and joy comes from, and that we are all family, I need say no more. By the way, before I forget, I did buy the most beautiful diamond for my most beautiful fiance Sandra, at an incredibly fair price. As I review what I just wrote, you may be asking yourself, why would someone take the time to do this? There must be a catch. He must be getting something. You are right in that I am getting something, but it is not what you may think.
My hopes are that you all can relate to sometime in your life when something really great happened to you and you wanted to share it with the rest of the world, particularly so others can also have that same great experience. It is the same as giving someone a gift. Well, this is definitely one of them and this is my gift. This is also my way of saying thanks to Fred not only for the beautiful diamond I got, but from what I learned from him about life.

Groom 6:
Fred Cuellar and his staff are what made me passionate about diamonds. Before I knew about his services, I had no knowledge or care for the diamond I would eventually choose to propose with. I figured I'd go to a jeweler and buy something sparkly and decent.
After reading his book I became a man whose passion for diamonds led me to interview every major jeweler in Metro Seattle to find the proper stone. Through talking with the DCI staff, I knew exactly what it was I was looking for, and I eventually found it. Without their help, I would have paid far more for an inferior stone whose price was more to pay the rent of some mall store (do not EVER buy from mall stores by the way) than to reflect the quality of the craftmanship.
But that's not the most important part. Through dealing with Fred and his staff, I knew I was in the presence of something greater than just jewelry shopping. DCI is about one thing: people. People who are as selfless and caring as possible, in an industry that is thriving on the opposite. Anyone looking for the best customer service when searching for the perfect ring, look no further. Fred and his staff are the best!
Steve Johnson, Kirkland WA
p.s. Read ALL of Fred's books. It ain't just about jewelry, folks; it's about life and how to live it.
Groom 7:
Dear Fred,
While I am certain that you receive daily thank you notes for your advice and books, I thought it appropriate to add to the number. Your book "How To Buy A Diamond" was most helpful and the single best investment I have ever made. I'm certain that the book at a cost of $15 saved me at least $2000 and ensured the purchase of a high quality stone as an engagement ring for my fiance. In a world where common sense is not all that common, it is great to see that one of the good guys actually succeed helping others through your approach to business and life in general. May you continue to enjoy the fruits of success through your work.
I unhesitatingly recommend your book to anyone thinking of making a diamond purchase for an engagement ring!!
I also find your website to rank among the best that I have visited. Many thanks again!

Now that things are a little less busy, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for an excellent job on my ring order. The workmanship was outstanding. All who have seen the ring were very impressed. I was very pleased as well. Your friendly customer service was greatly appreciated. Finally, Fred's book "How To Buy A Diamond" was quite interesting and useful. Thanks again! You have my recommendation.
Sincerely,
Kevin M. Halloran, Richmond, VA
Dee,
I want to thank you very much for all your help with my diamond purchase. The information you and Diamond Cutters International provided was critical in enabling me to choose a Diamond that my girlfriend will love and that I can feel confident was the best stone I could get for the money. Please keep up the great work in continuing to educate others!
