Channel settings in the face of a ring

Hello,
I have a ring with a square face. The channel setting is not in the shank. If I want to have the ring made larger, will it compromise the security of the diamonds?The channel setting goes completely around the face. The shank comes up on both sides and meets the outer channel wall. I saw another question posted like this, but my ring may be different.
