Diamond or Rhinestone?

I recently found a diamond earring. It is in a silver setting marked 925 and RS. Does the RS mean that it is a rhinestone? How can I tell if it a rhinestone or a diamond without asking a professional? I don’t want to go to the effort of an appraisal if it is just a rhinestone.
