Do I need a bonded stone?

Dear Fred,

I loved your book and your advice has been invaluable.

I know you are a fan of bonded diamonds, but should I really be paying the premium for bonded if…
1) I don’t plan on trading the stone in and I’m not buying it as an investment (this is something I hope she keeps forever and passes on to our children)
2) I plan on buying insurance with theft, breakage and other forms of loss
3) With help from your book and an honest jeweler I’m pretty sure to get a well proportioned great looking natural stone
4) Lastly, annual check ups may become cumbersome if I move across the country

All that said should I still be looking at bonded stones?

Thanks again!
Chris

Hi Chris, Would you buy a new car without any guarantees even if you planned to never resell it or trade it in? The answer is no. The Diamond Guy
