GIA report copy acceptable?

I have a jewler telling me they will have a copy of the GIA report to help me confirm the identity of my diamond before I purchase, but I won't receive the actual report until after I buy the stone. The claim is they have to order it. Is this a scam or a legitimate practice? Thanks for your help!

Hi Jim, GIA does not guarantee their information. Anybody who is still trying to use "lab reports" as a way to guarantee anything is being deceptive. The jeweler should put in writing the quality of the diamond in a Fully Bonded Appraisal. That states if the diamond ends up not being what the jeweler claims (by any accredited gemologist) at any time in the future that you get a full refund. If the jeweler won't stand behind their diamond then you shouldn't buy it. :) -Fred
