Adopt a Diamond Stories
Keeping up with the Jones’
Dear DCI: I write this story not for me but for my older sister. Because I truly believe that it is better to give than to receive, and even if I don’t win this contest just entering it has brought me tremendous joy. My older sister, Cheryl (age 52) has been married to her husband for 25 years. She has never known the pleasure of wearing a diamond on her finger or the absolute pleasure a diamond brings. The only ring she has is a very simple gold wedding band. My sister was the one who asked my brother-in-law to get married & he has never been able to afford to buy a diamond for her even to this day. My sister has 3 children & has sacrificed everything to put my nieces & nephew through catholic school, just so they could have a better education. She never asks for anything in return, and would never think to spend any money on herself, even though she deserves it. My sister is so good hearted that often times she will take in a stray kitty, and provide a loving home. My other sisters and I have all known the joy and wonderful feeling of getting engaged & showing off our beautiful rings to others we know and to those we dont, but not my sister Cheryl. Looking back now, I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for her to see her sisters’ excitement. My sister’s 26th wedding anniversary is coming up in October 2010 & I would love to make this happen for her. How wonderful would it be for him to get this diamond ring & surprise her, it would be the last thing she has ever expected. She probably realizes if she hasn’t received a diamond by now, she probably wont get one. I am hoping that I can change that for her, and am hoping my sister, Cheryl’s story is the selected winner. PS. Her last name really is Jones, and while she may not be one to keep up with, she is one you wont forget.
