LOVE TEMPLE
“Happy Birthday Neema!!” Oh my God, so it was my birthday! “Thank you mother, you are so wonderful!” I said jollily. Knowing that it was my birthday, my mother prepared a deft breakfast for me and brought it in my room. I was at the university level, second year. My sister Aika was working in a government office. She and my father had travelled.
Though my mother impressed me, but I was a little sad since my boyfriend Kelvin had not called me. My mom and I celebrated it happily; I did not want to disappoint her. Suddenly, I received a phone call from him. “Honey, get prepared we are going out tonight, I will come to pick you up at seven, be on time sweetheart! Goodbye, later.” He did not let me talk for a while nor giving me birthday wishes.
“Ooh darling, you are so beautiful” he said while admiring me dazzlingly. I looked stunning that evening. Kelvin was such an extrovert with all the qualities a girl needed. He was working in a telecommunication company. We loved each other sincerely.
He depicted my birthday to everyone by throwing a blast party for me. He also engaged me that night, I was extremely exulted. Kelvin told me sad news when the party was over; he was going abroad for a master’s degree. We both agreed to go and tie knots at the love temple. Nobody could detain us.
Love temple was a place far from town and there is an old man called Kinjengwale. He pierces one finger of a male and female and combine them. Later, he takes a piece of cloth and ties it. After that a woman sucks the man’s finger where it is pierced, likewise for a man. So the two people will stay together forever until death. If anyone of them violates the promise, will be punished severely. That is through illness or being crippled till death. We did that and Kelvin went overseas after few days.

It was a bright day that Kelvin was coming for a short vacation, but I heard enervating news. That the plane had crushed and all the passengers died. I could not believe my eyes but it was true. It took me months to recover with Jack (Kelvin’s best friend) and my mom’s assistance. Jack clinged to me and took me out often. Unexpectedly, we fell in love with each other. I forgot about Kelvin and moved on, he even outclassed him. Jack and I tied knots at the love temple as well.
After several months, I got sick terribly. I attended the hospital with no success. I started fainting, becoming feeble and so nervous; at last I paralyzed my legs and used a wheelchair. Jack never left by my side, he took very good care of me.
One day with Jack at the garden, Kelvin came. We were both surprised to see him until he told us the whole truth. “I did not die as you thought, I had drug dealer friend. At the airport, he kept drugs in my bag and went away with my passport. During check-ups, I had no passport and was caught with drugs. Therefore I had been in jail until now since I could not get a lawyer or anyone to support me.” He finished.
“Neema must be punished for disobeyence. She tied knots twice! The spirits cannot understand anything, so diseases must torture her to death. Otherwise; one of these men should die, for her to live. I give you only seven days.” Said Kinjengwale.
I feared death, my mom just wept. I asked them to help me out but they deserted me. I was despondent until the seventh day, in the morning Kelvin came and said that he was sacrificing himself for me. I told him my last words and hugged him.
When he reached there; Kinjengwale told him, “Your friend sacrificed himself already, but anyone who will see the corpse must die.” Kelvin was hurt and decided to lastly respect his best friend’s body. He came back home and told me so while coughing blood, he died in my arms. I took a knife and pierced it on my tummy. But I was hurriedly rushed to the hospital and got saved. I have remained myself now and I will never forget the two men who died for me. I will never love any man but will cherish their memories forever.
