online ring shopping
Fred, what are your thoughts on bluenile.com? Are they a trustworthy place to buy an engagement ring, or should I shop elsewhere? It's hard to tell quality of the actual ring by a picture, but judging by the "numbers" in the descriptions of the diamonds; when building a ring I can get a higher quality diamond for a better price than any local jeweler. Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Hi Steve,
Blue Nile is a consolidator of commercial grad diamonds sold at a fair price. Trustworthy? That’s a tricky word. Trust is not obtained with a click of a mouse. Trust is a process, a relationship. Trust is there for you even after the deal is done. Trust puts your needs first, not theirs. There are 4 factors I would consider before I buy anything: price, quality, service, and warranties. In the price department I give Blue Nile a C+. They aren’t the best, but they are far from the worst. In quality they are hampered because they are a consolidator. They don’t get any first round picks or second or third. They sell the left overs. If quality is important to you and not just the perception of it then they get a F here. In service they answer the phone. For that alone they must get a passing grade, but the knowledge of their online staff is horrible, D-. And finally in warranties another D-. They have some but with expiration dates. In a world where you can buy a diamond Fully Bonded with a life time cash buy back policy why would you live with month? Happiness shouldn’t have an expiration date. I hope that helps. –Fred
