What is the best way to get the most for this engagement ring?
I have an emerald cut 1.03 carat F-VS1 (GIA graded) measuring 7.45 x 4.82 x 3.02 with 62.7% depth and a 75% table slightly thick girdle mounted in a platinum tiffany knock off with color and clarity matched (F-VS2) tapered baguettes weighing .20 carats each. the total weight is 4.61dwt. the appraisal from 1999 was $11,425. How should I go about liquidating this item and how much should I expect to get for it? Also has the value of diamonds increased or decreased in the last 7 years? That questions sounds dumb to me but with internet competition these days it seems like they could have lost value.
Hi Matt,
You will need to get the ring reapprasied. Once you know the appraisal value, you can also ask for the wholesale value. With the wholesale value, you can calculate dump value as 60% of wholesale. Dump value is the lowest you should except for the ring. Now you need to find a buyer; check out family and friends first. If you need more help, give the my gemologist department a call a 1-800-275-4047.
